Science Experiments

We did some fun experiments last week.  We even got to taste something new!  Here are a few pictures and the "recipes" if you want to try them again at home.  Enjoy!
Monday we melted ice (solid to a liquid).
Tuesday we boiled water (liquid to a gas).
Thursday we played with Oobleck (a type of slime that has properties of both a solid and a liquid) and we made butter (liquid to a solid).

Shake,
shake,
shake

and still shake a little more.

Now enjoy!

To make your own butter at home pour a little heavy whipping cream into a container with a tight fitting lid.  Add a tiny bit of salt, for taste, and shake vigorously for about 5 minutes.  When you stop hearing the cream swish around inside check and see if it is thick.  Enjoy with crackers, bread or pretzels!

I didn't get any Oobleck pictures because we were sooo messy.  One student said it was disgustingly fun.
To make Oobleck use 2 cups of corn starch, 1 cup of water and three or four drops of food coloring.  Stir and play.  It is very messy so be careful!

Friday we talked about changing the physical properties of some solids.  Play dough was one of them.
Here is the recipe for no cook play dough.
2 cups plain flour
4 tablespoons of cream of tartar
2 tablespoons of cooking oil
1 cup of salt
2 cups of boiling water
food coloring

Just pop it all in a mixing bowl and mix.  Store in the fridge so it will last longer.  I made half of the recipe and it was still a lot.

RESPECT

We just finished our first character trait - RESPECT!
Lots of yellow!
